alma welcomes a creative new space for contemporary fashion and Mediterranean design: Colom, the recently inaugurated concept shop launched by Suso Ramos, a co-founder of La Principal, one of the island's undisputed references of style, Liticia Cerqueira and Pablo Fuster. Colom, named after the street on which it is located, marks a turning point not only for the local brand Mews, launched by the founders of La Principal, which has an expanded collection on view here, but also Palma’s fashion scene.
Colom presents itself as a dynamic retail space for men and women, with a carefully curated selection of international brands, timeless design objects, fragrance and accessories, and a specialty coffee shop run by Rosevelvet, that turns a visit into a complete experience. The essence of the project, as Suso Ramos, explains, "is to build a space true to our values, with timeless and elegant materials, and meticulous attention to detail." The elegantly designed three-storey boutique was renovated by De Prada Arquitectura and includes a beautiful stairway designed by Resmes studio, lighting by Contain, along with impressive stone display counters and tables and wood furniture.
To understand the opening of Colom, one must return to the origins of La Principal, "the little sister of Addict," one of the first concept stores to burst onto the Palma scene in 2006. Addict was located in a hidden alley in the old town, with a daring idea in Palma at the time: an urban space in Mallorca where edgy fashion, artistic collaborations, music, and hard-to-find brands coexisted.
That pioneering spirit evolved in 2010 with the opening of La Principal in a former art gallery, a space that allowed them to expand their offering and deepen their more mature and curated selection of brands. Since then, their growth has been constant. "Being a reference point on the island is very satisfying," says Ramos. "It's the result of many years of work: season after season perfecting our selection, satisfying our customers, and creating lasting relationships with suppliers and those who visit us."
