ncient, gnarly olive trees are studded across the island, with the Serra de Tramuntana region being one of the best areas where olive trees can be spotted from nearly anywhere. The cultivation and production of olives is a centuries-old tradition on the island, and it has long been used in the kitchen and for certain personal care treatments, as it has various health benefits and can be good for the skin. You won’t struggle to find amazing and quality olive oil in Mallorca, but these are some of our favourites tafonas, where you can find that deliciously tasting liquid gold:

Solivellas

Solivellas, a family-owned estate near the Mediterranean and the Sierra de Tramontana in Mallorca produces premium extra virgin olive oils that epitomise the island's unique terroir. Leveraging a variety of olives such as Arbequina and Picual olives, grown on calcareous soil and nurtured by the sea breeze and mountain winds, Solivellas creates a distinct, balanced blend. Their artisanal approach involves mechanically extracting oil from perfectly ripe olives, ensuring an acidity level below 0.2º, reflecting exceptional quality. Unfiltered to preserve sensory properties, the oil is protected in dark glass bottles, upholding its purity and flavour. This meticulous process, under the Protected Designation of Origin Oli de Mallorca, showcases Solivellas' dedication to preserving Mallorca's olive oil heritage.

Made exclusively from the native Mallorquina olive variety, this Mallorca olive oil is a product of the Oli de Mallorca Protected Designation of Origin and bears Organic certification (CBPAE). The oil is presented in a unique 500 ml hand-blown glass bottle, made exclusively by Gordiola, a family-run company with a 300-year legacy in artisan glass blowing. The bottle's amber colour and design not only reflect Son Moragues's commitment to craftsmanship but also ensure optimal preservation of the oil's quality. The estate is home to over two thousand olive trees, many over a hundred years old, dotting the narrow hill terraces that are less for vines. This rich heritage is reflected in their olive oil, which is a blend of three distinct olive varieties. Adhering to the same natural and meticulous production methods used for their wines, Son Mayol produces olive oil of exceptional quality. It is obtained from the first cold pressing, resulting in an oil characterised by smooth elegance, subtle sharpness, and vibrant green tones. Ideal for enhancing salads, fish, cheese, or simply drizzled over bread, this olive oil captures the essence of Majorcan agricultural craftsmanship

Son Catiu

Son Catiu, a modern jewel in Mallorca's olive oil legacy, stands as the island's largest and most advanced mill since its inauguration in 2008. Esteemed as the foremost producer of extra virgin olive oil under the prestigious Denominación de Origen "Oli de Mallorca," Son Catiu is a testament to quality and tradition.
