The Brief

Nestled between the Tramuntana Mountains and Mallorca's central valley, Alaró entices with its unique mix of tranquil village life and rich cultural heritage. While it is a popular place to live and to visit, the town keeps its original laid-back and welcoming spirit.

History

Alaró’s origins trace back to the Moorish era, a testament to Mallorca's diverse past. Perched strategically on a hillside, the town played a vital role in the island's defence during the Islamic rule. The ancient fortress of Alaró, Castell d'Alaró, crowns the hill, offering panoramic views that echo centuries of change. As time unfolded, Alaró evolved, absorbing influences from different cultures, resulting in a unique architectural landscape that showcases Moorish arches alongside mediaeval structures. The historic stone church of Saint Bartholomew, located in the centre of town, dates back to the mid-1600s, adding to the town's picturesque appeal.
