The 2nd edition of The Night of Solidarity Against Cancer (La Nit Solidaria contre el cancer) will take place on Friday, June 7th at the Bellver Castle. This special event is organized by the AECC – the Spanish Association Against Cancer in collaboration with the Balearic Islands chapter. There are individual AECC organizations across Spain.

The goal of the Night of Solidarity Against Cancer is to raise funds for oncology research and to reach 70% cancer survival by 2030. It also about continuing improving the lives of people with cancer and their families. The first edition of this event last year raised 36,000 euros for oncological research.

The choice of the Bellver Park as a location is new for this year and offers a welcoming and central location for people to gather, with the beauty of the castle in the background. As guests arrive, there will be a welcome snack and guests will enjoy a special performance by the Palma Gospel Singer choir. Various food stands will be attended to by some of the island’s top chefs, coming from the local association of chefs based in the Balearic Islands. Among them include, Gabriela Oliva, Miquel Serra, Javier Soriano, Bernabé Caravotta and Enrique Erazo and the participation of numerous collaborators from the restaurant sector. There will be ongoing musical entertainment and a raffle featuring gifts donated by local shops and businesses that will be hosted by David Ordinas, a presenter of the IB3 program: 'Jo en sé més que tú'.

Dr. José Reyes, president of the Association in the Balearic Islands highlighted that, “'La Nit' will be a very special night, creating a link between patients, volunteers, researchers, collaborators and friends who support the work of the Spanish Association Against Cancer. It is an important opportunity to demonstrate the commitment of Balearic society to the fight against cancer”. Currently, the Spanish Association Against Cancer is the leader in both social and private charities nationwide that allocates the most funds to cancer research and researchers. In 2023, its support reached an estimated 212,662 people. Statistics show that in 2023, 591 new cases were diagnosed in Spain per 100,000 inhabitants, which represents a total of 284,081 people diagnosed with cancer. In the world, it is estimated that there will be 21.6 million cases in 2030, of which more than 317,000 will be in Spain, where currently a person is diagnosed with cancer every 2 minutes.

The Balearic Port Authority continues this year as the main sponsor of La Nit Solidària, which also has the institutional collaboration of Palma City Council and the Bellver Castle for the celebration of the event; Palma Activa and EMAYA; the sponsorship of Uned Illes Balears, Sublime Oils, Arabella Hotels, Clínica Dra. Lía Fabiano, Trablisa, Fundación Asima and MTS and numerous companies collaborating in donations for the raffle.

Dr. Reyes also noted: “This is an event where we want people to have fun and enjoy but without forgetting the vision and support to help improve the situation for people living with cancer and their families.”

The Balearic Association holds several fundraising events throughout the year, including a solidarity walk.
