ummer is coming and we could not be more ready. After all the heavy rain and wind this winter, it feels like the entire island is ready for hot summer days that stretch into long warm nights – the thought of a jacket long gone. But, is your wardrobe as ready for summer as your mind and body? While we love digging out our summer clothes from the back of the closet, some things just don’t hold up for another season, and having something new to wear makes being outdoors that much better. There are so many talented local designers and well-curated shops on the island that know just what we need to make it through extreme heat, outdoor parties or long beach days.

There is something liberating about slipping on sandals for the first time after months of wearing socks and shoes; The soft leather, the wind on your toes. But the sandal has got to be one that can cross city streets and uneven cobblestones as much as the boardwalk. Designer Ariana Baltierrez, who launched Nuar several years ago, designs a small line of sandals, all made with high-quality leather from one of the last remaining  small shoe factories in Mallorca. Baltierrez, who studied Textile and Fashion Design in Barcelona, launched Nuar in part as a way to continue Mallorca’s shoemaking traditions. The shoes are very well-made and super versatile, making them ideal for travelling as well. Nuar is available in the showroom in Alaro and as of mid-June, will be part of a new shop opening in Deia. Stay tuned for more on that!

When it comes to a hot, Mediterranean summer, dresses reign supreme. Whether long and flowy or short and sexy, a dress is the easiest, most seamless way to get dressed when you are already feeling the heat. Enter Cecilia Sorensen, one of the island’s most established fashion designers, her fabrics and cuts seem to perfectly understand what is needed. For her S/S2026 collection, Sorensen, who is more known for black and white or a muted, earthy palette, brought in a pop of bright candy pink that lights up the room. Her classic Alber organic GOTS-certified cotton muslin sleeveless dress, with its gathered bodice, square-cut neckline and mid-calf length makes this a go-to for day or night. Available online, at Isso, Obsolete and Angel Agudo.

nyone who has spent time in Mallorca in the summer knows that hats are part of the everyday outfit if you are spending any time outdoors. But all too-often, summer hats look great on the beach or poolside but don’t quite translate to an outdoor lunch or meeting. This season, Folklorious is featuring handwoven hats made by Spanish artisans that have a sailor-meets Audrey Hepburn vibe. The sculptural style is a statement piece on its own, but the minimal colour tones gives you a freedom to pair it with anything.

Finding a swimsuit that is stylish and also sustainable can be difficult, but Suro Swimwear, a brand launched by Margarita Payeras, in Mallorca 10-years ago, has found a way to combine both. From tiny triangle tops to asymmetrical one-piece suits, the swimsuits are colourful and well cut for different body shapes and beach needs.

Summertime often means spending long hours outside of the house - beach days that turn into evening drinks, work-mode to party-mode, and it’s helpful to have a bag that can adapt to each event. Kamacko is a young brand founded by Juilette, who was born in Paris and worked in the fashion world in Paris, London and Milan before deciding to go out on her own.  Now based in Mallorca, Kamacko’s collection is inspired by the island’s beauty - bags have names such as ‘Le Agulla” and “Le Soller”, and are all handmade by women in Madagascar. The hand-crocheted raffia bags feature bright, bold colors and geometric designs that bring a sense of joy and fun to your day. Available online at Ca Serra 71, in Deia

When it comes to jewellery, the final piece to complete your look, this season, we are eyeing Diana Bornay’s charm necklaces. With their softly woven fabric cord and sun-yellow gold hand-wrought charms that feature earthly elements such as suns, stars and moons, they are sexy and their talismanic presence feels like a protective force. Available online or at Isso.

Happy shopping and let summer begin!
