Founding Director of CAN Ibiza, Sergio Santo
T

hinking about an easy weekend escape or a fun, art-focused excursion? Consider heading to Ibiza for the third edition of CAN Art Fair, which takes place between June 26th-30th, 2024. Led by Founding Director, Sergio Santo, and curated by freelance writer and curator, Saša Bogojev, the 5-day event takes place at the Ibiza fairgrounds in the Dalt Vila, just outside of the old town and forms the base of Ibiza Art Week, which includes special exhibitions and installations in local galleries, shops and institutions around the island.

CAN Ibizia is known for its cutting-edge approach to the art fair model, with a focus more on emerging artists, particularly painting, and exploring the boundaries of what is current and innovative.  More than 30 galleries will be featured, both international and national. Local Mallorcan galleries who will participate include La Bibi, Fran Reus, Galeria Fermay, L21 and Lundgren Gallery.

There is also a comprehensive OFF section that highlights a lot of Mallorcan talent. Faro de Ses Coves Blanques, a historic lighthouse in Sant Antoni, will feature the work of two Mallorcan artists: Alejandro Jovayolas (LA BIBI) and Bartomeu Sastre, (Fran Reus Gallery). Santa Eulària des Riu Air Raid Shelter will host an exhibition of ceramics by Mallorcan artist Jaume Roig, and Ibizan artist Irene de Andrés will exhibit at Sa Punta des Molí, a beautifully restored mill. Guillermo Rubi (Galería Pelaires) will also exhibit at Es Polvori gallery in Dalt Villa, Ibiza’s fortified old town which this year celebrates its 25th anniversary as a UNESCO World Heritage Site. Another off-site destination is London's Gathering gallery, who recently opened a second space in Sant Miquel de Balansat in May with a group exhibition. If you are feeling hungry, alongside the gallery is Mira Cafe, a Mediterranean restaurant, in addition to delicious food, includes a sculptural commission, bar, furniture and lighting designed by Gathering artist Tai Shani.

Go pack your bags, Ibiza is calling.
