While most locals and visitors explore Mallorca by car, boat or on foot, an entirely different perspective awaits those who take to the skies. Air activities have become increasingly popular in recent years, offering breathtaking views of the island and unforgettable memories. Whether you’re seeking adrenaline, romance or simply a new way to explore Mallorca, the island offers a variety of aerial experiences for every taste.

Helicopter Tours

Enjoy sweeping views of the Tramuntana mountains, rugged coastline and the city of Palma from the comfort of a private cabin. Starting from the Aerodromo de Son Bonet in Palma, operators such as Balearic Helicopters or The Helicopter Centre offer exclusive helicopter tours. Along the way, your pilot will share fascinating insights about Mallorca’s history, and landmarks, making the journey as informative as it is breathtaking. The flights, from 30 minutes to over an hour, are often customizable, allowing passengers to tailor the route based on personal interests. A helicopter tour is perfect for couples, families or anyone looking to celebrate a special occasion in style.

Light Aircraft Experiences

For those curious about the mechanics of flight, light aircraft tours offer a hands-on alternative. Seated next to the pilot, passengers often enjoy a front-row view of the controls and are sometimes even invited to co-pilot under supervision. Several prestigious pilot schools based at the Aerodromo de Son Bonet, including Panamedia or Flyschool Air Academy, give enthusiasts the chance to enjoy introductory flights. Their main focus is pilot training, however, from time to time, if an instructor has a free afternoon and is willing, they give passengers a taste of flying over Mallorca’s spectacular landscapes. The Real Aeroclub de Baleares, founded in 1935, is the oldest flying club in the Balearics, allowing both members and visitors to experience aviation while preserving local aeronautical culture.

Hot Air Balloon Rides

There’s something timeless and romantic about a hot air balloon ride. Floating above the countryside as the sun rises over the horizon simply is a magical experience. In Mallorca, balloon rides usually depart in the early morning from the island’s eastern or central regions. As the balloon ascends, passengers enjoy panoramic views and the peacefulness of floating with the wind. The slow journey provides ample time to snap photos and take in the scenery. Upon landing, many operators such as Illes Balears Ballooning or Mallorca Balloons in Cala Ratjada offer a traditional toast or light breakfast, making for a truly memorable experience. Hot air balloon enthusiasts will also enjoy the Illes Balears Ballooning Festival that takes off in Capdepera from 22nd to 26th October 2025.

Paragliding

For adrenaline seekers and nature lovers alike, paragliding offers the thrill of flight combined with the beauty of Mallorca’s landscapes. Tandem paragliding with professional operators like Mallorca Fly or Mallorca from the Sky is the most accessible way to experience this air activity in Mallorca. Launching from hills, cliffs or mountains such as the Puig de Sant Martí in Alcúdia, the wind catches the parachute and lifts you gently into the sky. Once up in the air, you can glide for up to 30 minutes, spotting beaches, mountain ranges and villages below. Some flights even include acrobatic moves for those who want an extra dose of excitement. No prior experience is needed, making this a great choice for adventurous beginners or anyone looking to break away from the usual tourist itinerary.

Parasailing

Combining flight with water-based fun, parasailing is a popular summer activity that allows you to fly high above the sea while being towed by a speedboat. It offers a controlled lift often reaching heights of 100 to 150 meters. From this perspective, you’ll enjoy sweeping views of Mallorca’s coastline, dotted with boats and stunning beaches or coves. The ride is typically smooth and serene, with the thrill coming from the height rather than speed. Most sessions last around 10 to 15 minutes, making it a perfect add-on to a day at the beach. Parasailing is offered by operators such as Monkey Jet Ski in Cala Bona and Cala Millor, as well as Watersports Mallorca in Alcudia, Playa de Muro and Magaluf.
