In the last few years, Palma has become an epicentre of stylish cafes and coffee shops serving excellent espresso drinks or matcha along with delicious homemade pastries and savoury treats. But where to find great coffee and cakes outside of the city? From north to south, the options are plentiful these days. Here is a list of some of our favourites.

Alameda

Alameda started in Sóller in 2020 as a concept shop focused on local and independent designers. Featuring ceramics, weavings, stationery, homegoods and more, the shop was a go-to for finding unique pieces. In Spring of 2024, founder, Talia Machtus, who has previously worked as a chef and baker in various restaurants, added a cafe to the small space, bringing delicious coffee, matcha, juices and homemade pastries – made onsite by her, as as well as toasts and daily specials. The cafe/shop’s soft pastel tones create a warm and friendly atmosphere.

Imperfecta

Opened this spring in a former butcher’s shop, Imperfecta is located on a corner slightly outside of Soller’s main shopping area, across from the town’s newest shop, Maison Art. Imperfecta offers a nice change to the bustling town centre, and its sharp, modern style, with colorful Lix chairs and wood tables brings something new to the village. The cafe offers a robust menu of salads, toasts and sweets, perfect for a late breakfast and lunch, along with great coffee, teas and a selection of alcoholic beverages as well.

Roseta

For the best views category, the award goes to Roseta, the ‘sister’ cafe to Barbaflorida. Located in a long rectangular space on Calle Rosa, off the main bustle of Valledemossa, the space features a large picture window that undoubtedly offers the best views over the valley of Valldemossa, an ideal spot to enjoy a coffee and treat. As good as the views are the delicious baked goods, all handmade by the multi-talented Mary Lambourne. Roseta serves local Palma coffee from La Molienda, matcha and delicious teas as well as wine. What gives the space added allure is the artwork and clothing available by Tamara K. Lloyd, a local artist whose colourful prints and patterns are a ray of sunshine.

Barbaflorida

This cafe/bar/restaurant opened in 2021 and was a much welcomed offering in Valldemossa. With its laid back vibes, cool aesthetics and homemade baked goods, Barbaflorida was an immediate gathering place. Inside, the luminous space is a playful mix of old school wooden cafe tables and furniture with contemporary touches, along with wildflowers and plants. Enjoy savoury toasts and salads or yogurt and granola, perfect brunch or lunch dishes, excellent coffee or matcha or opt for a local beer or glass of wine and enjoy.

Cafe Inca Esment

Cafè Esment Inca is operated by the Esment Foundation and all profits are reinvested back into the foundation’s programs. The contemporary space was designed by architects Alfons Romero and Marco Alabern, and marries an industrial chic style with modern, eco-friendly elements, such as pinewood tables sourced from storm-felled trees and locally made bricks that enhance ventilation and add a warm, earthy feeling. The menu focuses on local produce and homemade dishes including traditional Mallorca ‘cocas’ and rice dishes, as well toasts with eggs and avocado with bread made in-house with local grains and xeixa flour. The café provides meaningful employment and training opportunities for individuals with support needs, seamlessly integrating them into the hospitality industry.

Candela

Located in a beautifully restored 19th century former chocolate factory in Felanitx, Café Candela feels more like a cozy living room than a typical café—thanks to the warm touches added by its owners, Christine and Robert. The space combines vintage charm with modern style, where mismatched chairs and soft lighting create a unique and welcoming atmosphere. The menu includes homemade cakes or flaky croissants as well as simple, satisfying bites like open-faced toasts and freshly made sandwiches. Whether you're dropping in for a quiet morning or catching up with a friend in the sunny courtyard, Café Candela feels like a place you’re meant to stumble into—and stay a while.
