After years of working on luxury yachts and traveling around the world, Natalia Waeger returned to Mallorca to make some roots and start her own business. She had spent much of her childhood on the island with her parents, who moved here when she was young, and knew it would be a perfect place to apply her knowledge of luxury travel with a vision of sustainability and slow tourism. Launched in 2020, the Conscious Concierge does just that: offers visitors an opportunity to experience the island from a local’s perspective, bringing knowledge and insight that highlights the best of the island and helps contribute something positive.

Tell us about your connection to Mallorca. What brought you to the island?
N.W.

I have been connected to the Balearic Islands since my early childhood and it was eventually my parents decision to finally move to Mallorca in 1994. Although born in Munich, Germany, my upbringing has been international. Living abroad, traveling extensively, and immersing myself in different cultures, plays a big part in my life, reflecting my worldview and being creativity.

What inspired you to launch your own business? Were you already working in the travel business?
N.W.

After studying Product Design for the Fashion Industry at the London College of Fashion, I spent my summer holidays working on superyachts—purely for the fun of it. What started as a casual adventure quickly transformed into a full-time career that spanned over a decade. Working in the ultra-exclusive world of private luxury yachts offered unparalleled experiences, from traveling the high seas to interacting with some of the world’s wealthiest and most influential people. But after many years of living out of a suitcase, constantly on the move, I felt the pull to bring my service skills ashore. The desire for more stability and connection to home eventually led me to pivot, transferring what I'd learned in that unique environment into a new chapter of my life.

What does the Conscious Concierge specialise in? Why do people seek you out? You help with events as well as private clients?
N.W.

At The Conscious Concierge, we specialise in crafting a truly magical holiday experience, focusing on every detail from the moment you first inquire to the moment your vacation comes to an end. We also manage Villa services such as training household staff and maintenance. A personal approach is always at the heart of everything we do and taking the time to carefully curate the perfect villa or location for any occasion—whether it’s a festive celebration or a serene getaway. My clients value not only my creativity and integrity but also the deep knowledge and connections I’ve built over 30 years of living here in Mallorca. It’s a privilege to offer insights into this beautiful island and ensure every aspect of their stay is seamless and unforgettable. There’s nothing more fulfilling than seeing my clients happy from start to finish—knowing they’ve had an experience that truly exceeded their expectations.

I want them to feel the spirit of "Mi tierra es tu tierra"—"My Earth is your Earth"—and leave with a deeper appreciation for being conscious tourists or residents on this beautiful island.

Have you seen a shift in recent years, towards people wanting to travel more consciously? In the sense of being aware of and asking questions around what they want to consume or how they treat the island on their travels?
N.W.

Yes , I feel so deeply connected to Mallorca, and in my opinion, the government could do far better to address and raise awareness about sustainability and encouraging conscious travel....Unfortunately, like many other popular holiday destinations, Mallorca suffers from the effects of mass tourism. Therefore, my clients at The Conscious Concierge want to make it a priority to focus on sustainably sourced products and minimize wasteful packaging wherever possible and also choose organic fresh groceries instead of supermarket provisioning, etc. There are some wonderful local brands, from exquisite wines and cheeses to homemade artisanal products, and I take great pride to present these. I want them to feel the spirit of "Mi tierra es tu tierra"—"My Earth is your Earth"—and leave with a deeper appreciation for being conscious tourists or residents on this beautiful island.

When you have a first time visitor to the island, what is a place you like to recommend seeing – that represents this more conscious side to Mallorca and tourism?
N.W.

It all depends on the season and personal preferences, but one thing I always encourage is exploring the outdoors and supporting local farmers' markets. A stroll through Palma’s old town at dawn, watching the streets wake up slowly, offers moments of true serenity and is the perfect way to connect with the spirit of Mallorca before the day begins in full swing. When it comes to shopping, I love guiding my clients on a route to discover hidden gems—small boutiques where they can find unique, locally made items or brands. As for the island’s ever-growing gastronomic scene, I’m always happy to offer exclusive recommendations to the best little spots, from intimate eateries to special food experiences.

When you have a day off, what do you love to do on the island?
N.W.

I swap my car for my vespa and cruise to the seas side for an early swim or I take my dog fora long walk. I love to cook at home, have friends around or simply just disconnect get cosy and enjoy a good book while listening to music. It's that simple ! : )
