American-born Brenda Irani and her husband, opened Simply Son Braho, in Santa Catalina, as a colourful culinary destination designed to delight lovers of healthy-food and local products, many coming from their nearby farm. The large open space extends far beyond the kitchen to include a free co-working area that can also be adapted to host small events and gatherings that invite connection, a sense of belonging, and the forging of new friendships. It’s an ambitious and unique approach to hospitality on the island and it has become a welcoming spot for many who appreciate good food and a sense of community.

Hi Brenda ! Can you tell us about your background and where you come from? What was your path before entering the world of hospitality?
B.I.

I’m originally from the United States, but Europe has been home for nearly 30 years, with Mallorca now part of my life for over a decade. My professional path wasn’t linear — I worked across education, the non-profit world and the service sector — but there was always a common thread: helping, connecting and creating something meaningful.

I’ve long been passionate about nature, wellness and community, and hospitality eventually felt like the most natural and impactful way to bring all of those elements together. Food, after all, is one of the most powerful ways to care for people and bring them into connection with one another.

Simply Son Braho began in Alaró in 2012, which was quite visionary at the time. How did the project start?
B.I.

In 2012, my husband and I bought Son Braho Finca as a shared family dream : a place to slow down, reconnect and live more in tune with nature. During the pandemic in 2020, when everything felt fragile and uncertain, we made a conscious decision to fully align our lifestyle with our values around sustainability and wellbeing.

One of the most meaningful steps was creating a large organic market garden. From that garden came simple, nourishing, plant-based meals, which we began sharing first with friends, then friends of friends. What started as something intimate and home-based naturally grew into a community-led project.

Why did you choose Alaró, and what did that place represent for you?
B.I.

Alaró has always had a very special energy. It’s a place where local life and the international community blend effortlessly, with a deep respect for nature and a slower, more grounded rhythm of living.

For us, it represented authenticity, connection and balance, the perfect foundation for our home and the ideal environment in which to nurture the first expression of Simply Son Braho.

"Doing things ethically and sustainably often takes more time, effort and financial commitment : that’s the challenge! But the reward is knowing we’re building something that truly reflects our values."

What led you to open Simply Son Braho in Palma, and how does this new location differ from the original one?
B.I.

Originally, Simply Son Braho operated out of our home kitchen, which worked beautifully as a community initiative but wasn’t sustainable as a commercial model. Many of our guests were travelling from Palma and beyond, so opening in the city felt like a natural next step.

When we found the raw space in Santa Catalina, we knew it had the potential to bring everything together: nourishing food, a warm and welcoming atmosphere, and a strong sense of community. The Palma space allows us to reach a broader audience while still keeping the soul and intimacy of the original project.

What role do local Mallorcan producers play in your kitchen?
B.I.

They are absolutely essential ! We’re fortunate to have our own organic market garden, as well as access to passionate local growers and artisanal producers across the island.

Working closely with them keeps our menu seasonal, reduces food miles, and supports the local economy. It also creates a deeper connection between our guests and Mallorca… you can truly taste the island on the plate.

Simply Son Braho is also a concept store, offering local food products, ethical clothing and lifestyle items. Where did this idea come from?
B.I.

The concept store grew organically from our values. Guests were always curious about the ingredients we use and the lifestyle behind the brand. Offering thoughtfully selected products felt like a natural extension of the experience — allowing people to take a piece of Simply Son Braho home with them and continue that sense of consciousness, considered living beyond the table.

ASC
Could you share a few local or ethical brands you are currently working with?
B.I.

We collaborate with art collectives such as The Beehive and work with a range of small Mallorcan producers and ethical brands. Some guest favourites include Rifa Chili Sauce, Alonga Spices, Greening Line fashion pieces, and Love & Stone candles, scents and oils.

For us, it’s less about big names and more about meaningful relationships, supporting local artisans and conscious creators who reflect the spirit of the island.

ASC
What have been the biggest challenges (and rewards) of building a conscious, values-driven business in Mallorca?
B.I.

Doing things ethically and sustainably often takes more time, effort and financial commitment : that’s the challenge ! But the reward is knowing we’re building something that truly reflects our values. Seeing guests return again and again, and feeling part of Mallorca’s evolving food and wellness culture, makes it deeply worthwhile.

ASC
Looking ahead, what projects or developments can we expect from Simply Son Braho in 2026?
B.I.

Our focus is on depth rather than scale. We’re strengthening our catering offering for families, retreats and small businesses, deepening relationships with local artisans, and creating more intimate events and collaborations. For us, growth means richer connections, not simply getting bigger.

ASC
Finally, what does living well in Mallorca mean to you?
B.I.

Living well here is about balance : time in nature, good food, meaningful work and sharing life with people you care about. Mallorca encourages a slower, more intentional rhythm, and that’s something I feel grateful for every single day.
